2019 Greater Washington DC’s Healthiest Employers

Each year, the Healthiest Employers® awards program recognizes organizations that are committed to creating a healthy workplace. 

The Healthiest Employers awards program is administered by Springbuk through a comprehensive online assessment to evaluate company performance spanning six key areas of health and wellbeing: Culture and Leadership Commitment, Foundational Components, Strategic Planning, Communication and Marketing, Programming and Intervention, and Reporting and Analytics. 

The categories and scoring were designed with the help of a non-biased, national group of representatives within the wellness and business community. After completion of the assessment, the applicants are scored with a Healthiest Employers® Index that helps rank the organization based on their unique submissions. We are excited to announce the Greater Washington DC’s Healthiest Employers of 2019. The winners are ranked according to three different employee size categories: Under 500, 500-4,000, and 4,000+ employees.

Under 500 Employees

#1 Boland

Boland specializes in commercial HVAC systems and services to the greater D.C. metro area. In a recent survey, 91% of employees expressed satisfaction with the wellness program and the positive benefits it provides on a daily basis. They are also provided with paid time off to volunteer and give back to the community, which has been extremely well-received in the workplace. 

#2 Consumer Technology Association

Consumer Technology Association represents the technology industry, which supports 2,200 companies and 18 million employees across the country. They offer daily boot camp and strength training courses to provide more fitness options to employees during their busy day and have monthly biometric on-site screening options. The popularity of these programs are also in part due to their certified personal trainer and nutritionist. 

#3 Altamira Technologies Corporation

Altamira Technologies Corporation is a technology company in the national security space. Since the beginning of the program in 2016, the Healthy Living program went from 110 participants to 221 at the end of last year, highlighting the impact that wellness has on company culture. Every employee is offered a $250 credit to attract interest, with the ability to earn up to $1250 by reaching various levels of engagement.

500-4,000 Employees

#1 Venable LLP

Venable LLP is a network of trusted legal advisors that serve organizations, businesses, and individuals in their work. Their wellness program emphasizes a unique coaching philosophy with qualified well-being coaches who help make a lasting behavioral impression. They also host online webinars and blogs that are dedicated to improving overall well-being and mental health issues. 

#2 Gilbane, Inc.

Gilbane Inc. is a private family-owned real estate development and construction firm. They believe that employee health affects their ability to complete their work and remain safe while on the job. Employees are rewarded medical premium discounts for participation in the program and last year, they saw a 76% completion rate – the highest ever.

#3 Walker and Dunlop

Walker and Dunlop is one of the largest mid-sized commercial real estate financial companies in the country. Their leadership team is the driving force for their wellness programs and supports the overall well-being of the company. Employees have the opportunity to receive up to $150 for the completion of well-being programs, with over 50% of employees earning this incentive.

CGI Technologies is one of the biggest IT providers in the world with over 400 locations worldwide. They believe that there are several factors to wellness and are passionate about promoting financial health in the workplace. They have integrated programs that help employees reach financial goals and create a custom plan.

#2 U-Haul

U-Haul is a storage rental and moving equipment company that has been in operation since 1945. The Healthier U Program was created by their CEO, Joe Shoen, and is actively supported by leadership. They are continuously enhancing the program to cover all aspects of health and have had over 5,000 team members participate since inception in 2016.

#3 Terracon Consultants, Inc.

Terracon is an engineering consulting from that provides services to more than 150 offices in the United States. In 2018, 54% of associates participated in a yearly preventive exam, which is higher than previous years. They also have well-being champions in each office that encourages wellness events and promotes a culture of health to co-workers.
