Debbie Morrison
Assistant Director, Human Resources/Wellness Champion
Texas A&M University-Central Texas
Killeen, Texas
Debbie Morrison has led the wellness program since July 2019, increasing participation in wellness activities by approximately 85%. Under her leadership, the program has expanded from a small group of participants to a more engaged workforce. Debbie organizes challenges like the "Walk Through Texas History" challenge, where 80 employees participated, and 32 employees walked over 100 miles. She also supported community-driven initiatives, such as the Carter Blood Care blood drive.
Debbie promotes a holistic approach to wellness, offering resources on mental health, finances, physical therapy, heart health, and healthy eating through speakers and webinars. Debbie encourages everyone to live a happy, healthy life through regular walks and active participation in wellness activities.
Debbie Morrison began running at age 50 and has completed 182 races to date. She claims that she “doesn’t even like running,” but views it as her commitment to physical activity with a goal to simply finish each race. She encourages others in the office and university to take time for activities like walking, reading, or listening to music to decompress and reduce stress. By sharing her personal wellness journey, Debbie shows that it’s never too late to start something new.
Debbie has fostered a supportive wellness culture on campus, advocating for the wellness program and encouraging participation in activities. Debbie also promotes employee well-being by offering a 30-minute wellness break three times a week and providing healthy snacks at events, which has increased both participation and enthusiasm for the program.
