Janis currently manages the Global Public Health and Special Projects function within Chevron’s Health and Medical department. She holds a doctorate in health education and master's degrees in both nutrition and organizational leadership. She is a certified health education specialist, holds a certificate in public health informatics, and has a long history of education outreach and mentoring inside and outside of Chevron.
Before joining the Chevron team, Janis worked at NASA and received the Silver Snoopy award for her contributions to crew health and safety, NASA's U.S. Astronaut Corps’s highest civilian award. Janis has co-authored several publications on corporate wellness and more than 20 peer-reviewed scientific papers in nutrition and spaceflight. She co-authored "Space Nutrition", and various other publications on corporate wellness, nutrition, and spaceflight.
Outside Chevron, she has led workshops on nutrition and healthy lifestyles and holds positions on various external boards related to health and well-being, including The Health Project, Health Enhancement and Research Organization (HERO), and the Corporate Alliance on Malaria in Africa. She is also a former member of the Racial and Ethnic Disparities Advisory Board for the National Business Group on Health.
Janis has played a pivotal role in creating a culture of health at Chevron, developing wellness strategies, introducing the Employee Health Index (EHI) to measure health performance, and establishing the Chevron Health Champions and Ambassadors. She integrated health considerations into workforce safety, leader training, and diversity and inclusion efforts. Janis actively participates in employee networks, serving as a Well-being Ambassador for the Black Employee Network, where she facilitates discussions on well-being and promotes access to health resources. Her approachable nature and positive influence have motivated many employees to adopt healthier lifestyles. Janis has received the Leadership in Health and Productivity Management award for her outstanding contributions to Chevron's health and well-being efforts. Despite the challenges posed by COVID-19, Janis remained committed to employee health and creating a positive culture of well-being.
